Morris calls special council meeting to discuss retirement system and other budgetary items

Friday afternoon, Slidell Mayor Ben Morris called for a special City Council meeting for Monday at 5 p.m.

The letter to the council calling the meeting said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the increase in the city’s contribution to the police and municipal employees retirement system, the policies on take home cars and cellular telephones, travel budgets and to introduce the fiscal year 2011 budget ordinance.

    " Mike B - The city does not pay 100% of insurance either. There is a cost share of the premium that employees have to pay. There was a provision for payment of a 100% for retirees but that recently changed to a percentage for new retirees based on total years of service. "

    " To the previous two posters, the meeting is scheduled to see what can be taken away not given, and for those citizens that apparantly didnt know this will be the 3rd year w/no step increase and 2nd year with no cola raise for the city employees, so in 3 years thats 5 raises your city employee's have given up to work for you, including the police dept. "

    " Seems like Ben is trying to continue protecting his nest egg and also get the department behind him for chief. What about the tax payers in the city ? "

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
