Commodore D. “Sandman” Lackey Jr. passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at the age of 78.

He was a native of Hiddenite, N. C., and a resident of Bush. He was the son of the late Virginia Captola Waugh Lackey and Commodore D. Lackey Sr.; brother of Shirley Anita Fowler and the late Winifred Raye Harper and Wilma Marie Taylor. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Sandman retired from the U.S. Air Force as staff sergeant after 33 years of service and he was the owner/operator of Sandman Trucking Co.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at noon tomorrow in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Road, Covington.
